If you purchased or refinanced the home you reside in during 2020, don’t forget to make sure you’ve filed for the appropriate deduction(s). Neglecting to do so by 12/31/2020 will have a significant impact on your property taxes.

NOTE: You don’t need to reapply for these deductions each year – only when you purchase a home, change info on your deed, or refinance your home.

You may file in person, via mail or online (depending on the county in which your property is located). Be sure to check on your county’s website for their procedures.

Most Indiana title companies are filing the homestead deduction for the clients as long as they have a valid Indiana driver’s license. If this is the case for you, all you will need to do is file the mortgage deduction and confirm the homestead deduction was filed on your behalf.
